Application Note: Test and Monitor Automotive Car Seats During the Manufacturing Process

Customer Requirement

A luxury car seat manufacturer required to monitor and test it’s products during the manufacturing process. These seats, which at a touch of a button reposition themselves to either the driver’s or passenger’s preferred setting, have to be manufactured to strict standards. The seat is required to be put through a full range of movements to ensure the seat is working to specification and the whole circuit is without fault. Testing manually would require random testing from the production line. Under such system, had one seat failed, all seats in that batch would be required to be tested manually. The manufacturer required a system that tested each seat during the production process and produced a printed report of the results.

dataTaker Solution

The dataTaker DT600 accepts analogue readings from sensors attached to the seat’s circuitry. The dataTaker data logger converts to digital form for further manipulation and storage. The seat is put through the full range of movements while on the production line with the DT600 recording seat position and current over time to determine if the seat is working to specification, and to ensure that the whole circuit is without fault. A printer is connected to automatically print a report on each seat’s performance.
